Atelier Nooitgedacht is a new initiative in Kortrijk. Nooitgedacht is not only a studio where self-employed people can work but is also a café and co-working space at the same time.
During WONDER, Atelier Nooitgedacht has invited the production house Tegenadem for a unique musical performance in which they showcase their auditorium. In an attempt to build a new bridge between musicians and audience titled; The Neurotic Aquarium of Mr. Fluff.
WHAT IS AN AUDITORIUM?
The auditorium is best characterised as an experimental sound and recording machine. A feedback monster. We string every day and experimental instruments together with a mixing desk in such a way that random rhythms and melodies from our improvisations return unexpectedly. Moreover: nothing - not a cough, not a shoe on the wooden stairs - escapes the microphones. The auditorium forces us as musicians to deviate from our habit; listen differently; pitch in differently; curators of derailment. If we found during our first auditorium that the gargantuan cloud of sound can only be contained with the playfulness of a child, we continue the investigation now, grander. Together with Cesar Janssens, drummer of Raymond van het Groenewoud and founder of collective Jr.cE.sAr, we built instruments from scratch. The audience, challenged in its listening skills, becomes part of the randomness of the mixing desk. Everyone will notice something different during the performance. Some will enervate themselves on a bar stool at the bar, others will slump down on their backs with their eyes closed into their sleepy stomachs.
WHAT IS TEGENADEM?
Probably Tegenadem is a collective; a production house - at least balanced founded on text, sound and image; on the firm belief that every work of art is more intelligent than its maker - with masterpieces it is like that; had they never existed, we would not have missed them, therefore their presence comforts us - Flannery O'Connor: There's many a bestseller that could have been prevented by a good teacher, after her example, we expect literature, music and cinema not to treat the reader, listener or viewer exclusively as a passive element - Agnès Varda: Je ne veux pas montrer, mais donner aux gens l'envie de voir, in the same way we prefer to force a look and an ear with few means rather than spoon-feeding a saccharised subject with pricey antics - with each new production, they uncompromisingly seek the bottom with childlike curiosity as a compass - the risk of failure is crucial in this regard - in the same way, the new horizons they seek also always link back to a desire to break free from one's own room, one's own screen, one's own habits; a thirst for artistic self-organisation that, hopefully, inspires and invites collaboration.
