Reflections

Reflections
During Wonder Festival, the gallery - Art and Design Productions - Sionstraat 50 Kortrijk, presents the exhibition -REFLECTIONS- an exhibition featuring a thematic selection of recent abstract paintings  by Hans Soenen , photography by Nadia Anemische (FR)  “Still Water “,  and a video installation by filmmaker Nikolaas Boucquey , “Darkentries”.
Hans Soenen and Nadia Anemiche engage in a fascinating interaction between their artworks .

All of them provide an interpretation of the theme.

Reflections
Monumental, vertical, and panoramic abstract acrylic paintings reflect on the things we pass by every day. The capture or attempted capture of the very moment in which we perceive something. The accidental reflections on glass or water, flat or curved, surprise in their simplicity. It is not the subject that matters but what the light does to the subject. The artist translates this 'looking at' into paint, taking the viewer into his world of wonder.  Suggestive, moving, with elusive compositions without end or beginning, a capture of the wondrous now.
For four decades, Belgian artist and designer Hans Soenen has been passionate about art and design. Twenty-two exhibitions on, his formerly figurative paintings have evolved into abstract, sometimes geometric, sometimes dynamic, and evocative work. In monumental acrylic paintings, he demonstrates his virtuosity in composition and use of color and conveys his personal story.

Nadia Anemiche nadiaanemiche.com
Nadia Anemiche lives and works in Lille.
After studying applied arts (ENSAAMA, Paris ; DNSEP - ENA, Cergy Pontoise), she settled in Lille in 1992 as a freelance graphic designer. She specializes in cultural communication and works with museums and local authorities on the design of communication tools, publishing, and exhibition design.
In 2010, during her first trip to Japan, she returns to photography.
As she says: "My photographic quest search can be summarized simply: to let go and celebrate the moment. Each moment that comes into my view contains a secret, an element of  coincidence. Linking the visible and the invisible, the light and the dark, the undefined and the precise, the real and the imaginary... that is the challenge of my work."

 STILL WATER ( À FLEUR DE L'EAU )

The 'À fleur de l'eau' series is the result of an artistic assignment from the Syndicat Mixte d'Adduction des Eaux de la Lys, a river that rises in Lisbourg and joins the Schelde in Ghent. This plant purifies the water from the Lys and brings it to the Lille metropolitan area and the former mining basin.
Nadia Anemiche's artistic proposal bears witness to this complex equipment and process, making it perceptible rather than visible.
She wandered through "liquid territory", along the confidential paths of water supply pipes, leaving plenty of room for the chance that characterizes her working process.
The series is presented in the form of visual chronicles based on the four seasons and offers a poetic comparison with the factory equipment.

SHORT FILM TAKING TIME - DARKENTRIES (2021) Short Film
Seeking the comfort of stories and collective rituals in the cocoon of virtuality and between the cracks of clashing events. Let's become poetic nomads, aware of the temporary reality, at ease with the surreal strangeness of this world, and embrace the path itself. Is there a more dark paint than grey before you start a new existence?
The short film Darkentries invites for a trip to a strange yet familiar landscape. This moving poem of images, sound, music, and words was captured in Antwerp the day before the lockdown in the fall of 2020.
Written/directed/photography/music/poetry by Nikolaas Boucquey
Nikolaas Boucquey starts from a physical place and develops organic short films in which boundaries and reality dissolve. In this new world, in the now, he reflects and touches on today's themes: city life, coexistence, virtuality, polarization, and agency.
